I have seen a man do something kind for a complete stranger. He did something that he would absolutely never do for himself, and unlikely for his family. Part of me insists that it’s a good thing that we have in us a nature which has such compassion on such strangers. Yet, from within I hear a voice questioning: “Why won’t he do it for his family or himself?”

We are fickle creatures, we humans.
