Fickle man.

I have seen a man do something kind for a complete stranger. He did something that he would absolutely never do for himself, and unlikely for his family. Part of me insists that it’s a good thing that we have in us a nature which has such compassion on such strangers. Yet, from within I hear a voice questioning: “Why won’t he do it for his family or himself?”

We are fickle creatures, we humans.

    I wonder about this a lot. I think most are so used to the problems in the lives of those close to them, that they become complacent and see them as normal. And yet, when someone, who they will never see again, needs help, it seems so glaring and clear. It’s almost as if they feel the need to be the good Samaritin only when their actions are sufficiently out of the ordinary to impress bystanders…
